Courier Antivirus and CrewCommCenter
The Courier Antivirus has been implemented on our vessels since 2007. We are satisfied with the services especially since we do not need to monitor or send CDs to the vessels.
The automatic reporting back keeps us updated on the status of every PC. If a PC has been switched-off or taken out of the network domain and do not receive the update, we get notified. The solution helps us to be more productive.
The SMScrew mail solution was rolled out at the same time we started the Courier service. The crew find the solution valuable and especially appreciate the SMS feature as it enables them to keep in touch with their family and friends by sending SMS messages directly to their mobile phones.

CrewCommCenter
We have been using the SMSCrew mail system since the end of 2005. This started as a prepaid service. Our crew have been using the service extensively and they were very happy when we introduced the free service. These days we are implementing the new CrewCommCenter which provides the crew with free worldwide Ingoing/outgoing SMS.
The services are provided at a very good fixed monthly price and the crew are very happy to get all the services for free. By using the CrewCommCenter our company provides high quality welfare to the crew. It is a very cost efficient service for our company and we also avoid slop chest logistics.

ICT Manager Runar Gaarder at Mowinckel Ship Management researched the market for a solution to optimize their KVH Vsat ship/shore communication solution. The main goal was to optimize web usage. The CrewCommCenter provided by SeaSecure was considered as a candidate for this job. After a test period during July 2010, the decision was taken to make full usage of the CrewCommCenter across the whole fleet.
The tests showed that the web optimization using the dedicated proxy services was efficient ( no streaming/downloads etc). In addition, the tests also showed that the free SMS World Wide Service, both for incoming as well as for outgoing messages, was popular among the crew. ¨
The onboard CrewCommCenter built-in thin chat client (supporting Yahoo, MSN, AOL, ICQ and Facebook) is also saving traffic/bandwidth. Crew do not need to download the different chat clients, but can use their ordinary shore side user IDs within the CrewCommCenter. Firewalls on the vessels shut down all common ports and crew are only using the SeaSecure dedicated ports for browsing and chat. This leads to a more “streamlined” solution with higher security.
A/S J. Ludwig Mowinckel Rederi is using KVH as the main SAT carrier and have Inmarsat terminals as “backup”. If vessels should happen to be outside Vsat coverage, communications are automatically switched to the Inmarsat terminal ( dial up or FBB ). The CrewCommCenter follows, and provides the crew with full use of the free SMS and free email service when using the Inmarsat terminal.
SeaSecure offer the CrewCommCenter solution at a fixed monthly cost which A/S J. Ludwig Mowinckel Rederi consider very cost efficient compared with the value of the free services provided to all Crew members.

Grieg Shipping Group expands crew welfare and installs the CrewCommCenter from SeaSecure on all their vessels.
After having used a prepaid service for crew email for some years, Grieg Shipping Group decided to upgrade the entire fleet to the new CrewCommCenter from SeaSecure after complete testing of the system during November and December 2010.
The upgrade has been highly automated and trouble free. The CrewCommCenter solution provides all services for free to the crew. Free email/SMS World Wide, incoming/outgoing, specialized “thin” chat clients and optimized secured web browsing.
Vessels that have dial-up satellite communication systems are provided with free email and SMS and vessels with fixed satellite lines can, in addition, use web browsing and thin chat clients.
When crew get access to the free SMS service in the same way as free email, we notice that SMS is the preferred messaging method to communicate with the loved ones onshore. This ratio is typically 25% email – 75% SMS messages. Crew can communicate with their children and wife instantly and it looks like SMS is preferred even if there is a PC in the household. After all, people always carry their mobile phone with them wherever they go .
